President's Message - May 2024

Hello Alabama!

As the Cagle Administration begins, I am thrilled to embark on this journey alongside each of you! In April, it was an honor to be sworn in as your state president at Mount Vernon in Arlington, Virginia. I was overjoyed to spend time with friends across the country, carry our flag, and represent all of you in D.C.! To say the least, I was proud to be an Alabama member! I cannot wait to see where this year takes us as we “march” to “The Sound of Sousa”!

I have not met all of you personally yet, so here is some information about me! My name is Sarah Cagle. I am a sophomore in college majoring in American History. I am a dual member of C.A.R. and DAR.; my D.A.R. chapter is John Wade Keyes, and my society is Captain John Farrar. I have dreamt of being state president since I was sworn in as a member in 2017.  My passion for music and history has led me to my theme this year is “The Sound of Sousa.” Playing the flute since 6th grade has given me the opportunity to participate in patriotism as expressed through music. This is the 125th Anniversary of “Stars and Stripes Forever” but Sousa did so much more for our country. I am excited that this anniversary coincides with the D.A.R. theme as well. That said, I am so excited to see you all learn about John Phillip Sousa and patriotic music!

2024 State Project and Theme

 “The Sound of Sousa”

This year, I would like our state to focus on fundraising for educational exhibits that will be donated to Alabama museums throughout the state. These banners will include information on John Phillip Sousa, patriotic music through American history, and promoting music therapy for veterans. These banners will encourage others to appreciate the music that has shaped our country and understand the power it can hold. While I am still in the planning stages for this project, I look forward to providing you with more updates as the summer progresses. Thank you for entrusting me with the honor of serving as your state president! I am committed to working tirelessly on your behalf and upholding the values and traditions of C.A.R. I look forward to the year ahead and collaborating with all of you to serve our great organization.
